Program to tip off school officers proving successful

(WDAY TV) - After about a year in service, the Text-A-Tip program is proving to be extremely successful. The anonymous service is available for students to tip off school officers if something bad is going to happen.

Fargo school leaders say they're impressed at how many students use the service. They say it's not small issues that are reported, in one case, Text-A-Tip prevented a student suicide.

School leaders say one of the good things about the program is the fast response by police, once a tip is given.

“When we looked at the dispatch record and we looked at the cell phone record, they were within two minutes of each other, so it's almost as efficient as calling 911.”

The district is working on a new similar service like Text-A-Tip, leaders plan to unveil exactly what it is very soon.
