Perham athlete grabs D1 attention for football and basketball
Perham, Minn. (WDAY Sports) - Over the past couple of years, Perham has emerged as a sports powerhouse in Minnesota, producing state champs in several sports. Now they have an athlete who is getting attention from Division 1 schools and not just in one sport, meet Ben Bucholz.By: Dom Izzo, WDAY
“I'd say most of the time when he catches the ball; there are three guys around him.”
Ben Bucholz has gotten used to having plenty of people around him. Whether he's avoiding tacklers on the football field or weaving thru the paint on the basketball court, the Perham senior has college coaches drooling.
“I love them both right now. As far as college, I am getting looked at for both. Hopefully I just find out what fits best.”
“If someone were to come with a d-1 scholarship for football, he may step to that; it looks more like basketball is a good fit for him.”
Schools all over the Midwest think Bucholz will be for fit for them. NDSU and UND have kept an eye on him for football, while Idaho and Idaho State are coming to Perham to watch him on the court this month, but Bucholz says he doesn't mind the added pressure.
“When scouts are there, I am making sure I’m playing my best ball.”
His best ball has turned him into a star in Perham, where he says he can't go too far without someone wondering what his plans are for next year.
“I think it's gotten to him a little bit because there's lots of pressure on him to decide. He wants to get it over with and focus on his senior season.
“Pretty much on a daily basis, where I’m going to go, what I’m going to do? So I’m used to it.”
Some coaches don't want to live without him. He has official visits to St.Cloud State and MSUM coming soon.
