Hawthorne Neighborhood gets informed on flood protection progress

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The Hawthorne Neighborhood Group is getting a closer look at flood protection, with a special presentation from Fargo City Engineer Mark Bittner.

The group invited Bittner to speak at its regular meeting. Bittner updated the group on current flood protection options, costs, and timelines.

It's the same information given out at other flood meetings, put on the Corps of Engineers, just a smaller setting. Bittner says it's important to keep this group of people informed on flood protection progress.

“This neighborhood has some of the highest ground in Fargo and also some of the lowest ground, so flood protection is important to them. Flood plain re-mapping is important to them.”

A representative from the city planning department also talked to the group about the proposed changes to the city's sign code. This summer, the group raised concerns with the city after a business owner wanted to put an electronic sign in the neighborhood.
