Vikings enjoy first round bye(WDAY Sports) - Twas the Monday before the playoffs and all through Chilly's house, not a creature was stirring except a few guys who needed treatment on their injuries. Yes the playoffs begin Saturday, but the Vikings get the first round off by finishing number 2 in the NFC and the coach has given the boys a whole week off. Coach, that's a lot of beach time the week before the playoffs.

“I just think that serves us the best and you have to make the bye serve you from the mental and physical standpoint. It's not going to do us any good to grind over the unknowns of someone you might not play.”
Vikings both earned their R and R, and lucked into it. They won 10 of their first 11 games, and saw some of their pursuers come up just short as the Vikings lost 3 of their last five. It all means that the NFC tournament is a crap shoot. Coach says its business as usual.
“I think it's always wide open. All you have to do is look at how many different playoff teams there were and how many champions didn’t' make it back. We're mindful of that.”
Vikings offense never looked better than yesterday, although the Giants didn't seem to care. Still the turnaround that started at halftime in Chicago has the players optimistic, but it is hard to explain.
“The difference for us is when we've had opportunities, for the most part this year; we've made the most of it. In the games we've lost and the games in the last couple week’s period here in the last four or five weeks we didn't make the most of them.”
“I wish I could tell you we had a magic elixir we poured on it at halftime and then all drank the Kool-aid again yesterday, but it's just 11 guys doing the right thing at the right time.”
And those of us, who've had issues with the defense, couldn't say much about the Giants game.
“This was a good game for us to come out and win the way we did against a good New York team and hopefully shut all you naysayers up. That's to everybody who writes bad things about us in the paper because we lost a couple games and the d-line. We're sick and tired of it, OK that's off my chest.”
The Vikings could play Arizona, Green Bay, or Dallas next Sunday at noon.
