MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A Lisbon man has won North Dakota's largest poker tournament.
Eric Hanson took the $37,500 top prize of the North Dakota Texas Hold 'Em Poker Championship on Sunday. The tournament is played every year at a Minot motel, and this year it drew almost 1,500 players. The event started last Thursday. It cost $100 to enter.
Hanson says patience was his key to victory. He says his son wants some of the winnings spent to buy a new snowmobile.
The Minot State University Alumni Association hosts the tournament as a charitable fundraiser. This year 100 players split almost $115,000 in prize money.
