(WDAY TV) - This evening we continue our look back at the top stories of 2009 in the valley. WDAY's Chastity Walberg takes us through the months of April, May and June.

"If you don't understand this is an epic flood, this is an epic flood. Nobody has ever faced this before in this group." In April, news came of a second crest on the Red River and the waters rose to 34 feet. The focus turned the Valley City, where the Sheyenne's waters raged with fury. Fighting the rising waters cost billions of dollars up and down the valley.

"We are doing things out of the ordinary. We're very carefully preparing." It was late April when we first started hearing about the swine flu outbreak. To date, the swine flu has taken at least 56 lives in Minnesota and 3 in North Dakota.

In May, we said goodbye to Fargo racecar driver John Schulz, who died while racing at the Red River Speedway in West Fargo. It was the first death at the track since 1992.

"We don't believe justice has been done." in June, 17-year-old Joel LaFromboise was shot and killed after he went into a Moorhead man's apartment. No charges were filed against Vernon Allen, who pulled the trigger in self defense.

Tomorrow, we'll take a look at the top local stories of July, August and September.
