Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The snow has certainly piled up which is great for fun and games, but city workers are concerned. Those snow piles can also be dangerous. Huge piles of snow left in the street from clean up crews become winter jungle gyms. Workers say neighborhood kids see them as sledding hills, digging pits, or a perfect spot for king of the mountain.

“Generally it's not a problem. Kids have played on them, but they're in school during the day. Now with the Christmas break here and the timing of this, we get a little nervous.”

City officials say they understand why these huge piles of snow are so tempting for kids to play on. They say their biggest concern though is when youngsters are building forts and digging tunnels through the snow piles.

“As a parent myself and a grand dad, it makes me extremely nervous seeing people tunnel into them. It would be a bad thing if it collapsed and we didn't even know it.”

Officials say everything would have to go wrong for them to scoop a pile with a person in it, but are reminding people they will be hauling snow for a few more weeks, and want to prevent a worse-case scenario. Drivers do circle the piles and honk a horn before scooping the snow.
