Fargo, West Fargo to discuss water deal

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — West Fargo officials are discussing whether the city should buy water from neighboring Fargo rather than build its own treatment plant.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — West Fargo officials are discussing whether the city should buy water from neighboring Fargo rather than build its own treatment plant.

Fargo now treats about 22 million gallons of water daily during peak demand periods. Its water plant can handle 30 million gallons daily, and it could be expanded to treat 45 million gallons.

Fargo enterprise director Bruce Grubb says the city has plenty of capacity if West Fargo wants to buy Fargo water.

Fargo gets most of its water from the Red River. West Fargo draws its water from wells that are being depleted, and the city is looking at the Sheyenne River for future water supplies.

A new West Fargo water plant could cost $60 million.
