Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - It may be the ultimate act of generosity, giving something when you don't have much. That's what a Moorhead woman did today.

Jennifer Hernandez is homeless and living at Churches United. She wanted to give a gift this Christmas, but didn't have any money. Instead, she gave 18 inches of her long, black hair at this beauty school.

It’s taken her 6 years to grow. Although she loves her long locks, she wants to see the smile on someone's face who needs it.

"I get tingly inside just thinking about it, like right now I’m tingling that I’m going to do this form them and I’m hoping that it's going to make some little girl's stomach tingly like mine is feeling right now!"

The hair will be sent to Locks of Love in Florida to be made into wigs for people who've lost their hair from cancer.
