Detroit Lakes, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A mysterious bright flash in the sky had some people in western Minnesota worried, wondering if what they saw was man made or something from far above.

Around 1 this morning Becker County Dispatch received several calls for a bright light in the sky flying close to the ground. Callers were concerned of it possibly being a plane.

A deputy was sent out to investigate the flying blue-ish green light, but found nothing. Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon says with the proximity of the callers they determined the light had to of been higher in the sky than the callers had thought.

Gordon says they had similar calls a few months ago during a meteor shower, and says the area now has another one occurring.

“It appeared to be bright. It appeared to be closer than it actually was. We did have officers investigate just to be sure in light of that with the recent tragedy of the plane crash. It was still on people’s mind and was it a plane in distress, so it was well worth checking out.”

There were reports of people spotting the flash from as far away as Fergus Falls. Gordon says he's confident the flash was not a plane.
