(WDAY TV) - The clock is ticking for more and more homeowners facing foreclosure in Otter Tail County. For many, time has run out. There are weeks where the Sheriff's Department has hosted up to 18-foreclosure sales in one day and now the county is set to break a record for the year.

A week before Christmas, here on the steps of the Otter Tail County Courthouse, it is a sign of the times. 9 scheduled foreclosures sales today, 4-completed and the foreclosure numbers so far this year is staggering.

With 116 so far, otter tail has already passed last year's final total of 108 and is way above 89 foreclosures two years ago.

“There are a lot of foreclosures for Otter Tail County.”

Marcia Thompson and Dion Bredman work on serving the papers and running the sheriff's sales on the property, what used to be just a handful of homes every month.

“We are seeing up to 11 and 13 these past few weeks every Thursday.”

“Typically they understand and know the process has already started so they know that I am coming.”

The foreclosure sale is not the final word; families still have a redemption period of about 6-months to get the home back. Another auction is set for December 30th.
