Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Officers targeting gangs and drugs will remain on duty in Clay County. The Red River Valley task force will get 125-thousand dollars in grants to help cover the cost of a gang officer from the Moorhead police Department and two narcotics officers from Clay County Sheriff's Department.
Moorhead Police lt. Penas asked for more in the grant request, but feels lucky to at least get the same amount as last year considering Minnesota’s budget deficit.
“Having those officers assigned to that task force let's us reach out to several different resources to help us work those investigations and get numbers of people off the streets instead of one or two.”
Penas says the Drug Enforcement Administration's work can lead to large busts like operation Paint Numbers and operation Speed Racer.
