Daycare may need to close after receiving fewer grants

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - An update on the financial struggles with the Nokomis Child Care Center in Fargo. Fewer grants might force the daycare to close.

Nokomis needs 170-thousand dollars by January or it will shut down. That will leave about 160 families without a place to bring their child. The economy is causing corporations to not be able to financially support the center as much. The center depends on grant money to get by, but foundations have also cut back drastically.

"When you have a recession like this, income goes down. I mean, our income goes down at the same time that more people need help. So you really get kind of squeezed from both directions."

Officials say it will be difficult to recover from this mess even if the center gets that money.
