FINLEY, N.D. (AP) — A new sheriff's deputy in eastern North Dakota quickly found out the need for his services when his own vehicle was stolen in his first week on the job.
Authorities say a man who had driven his car into a ditch walked into the yard of Deputy Jay Dugan and drove off in his truck, later totaling the vehicle following a six-mile chase with law officers.
Twenty-two-year-old Derek Fuglem of rural Northwood faces several charges.
Dugan is a deputy for both Steele and Griggs counties.
