GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) — The winner of the largest lottery jackpot in North Dakota history says he likely will use the money more for his children than for himself.
Retired farmer George Nelson was presented with a ceremonial check in Grafton on Monday. Nelson won a $1.6 million Wild Card 2 jackpot during the game's Nov. 25 drawing. He took a lump sum payment that added up to $1.14 million after taxes.
Nelson says he plans to fix up his house and buy his wife, Charla, a new vehicle. But he is more worried about his children — 22-year-old Ventzi and 19-year-old Asya. He says they will have to help pay off the growing national debt, and can use the help.
