Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - There's a new, temporary leader at North Dakota State University. Today Interim President, Richard Hanson took over for Joseph Chapman who left yesterday. Hanson is ready to start gaining back a tarnished reputation.

It's out with the old, in with new here at North Dakota State University. Today, Dr. Richard Hanson takes over as the Interim President. Hanson's first day on the job at NDSU started off with a morning meeting with his cabinet.

He takes over for Joseph Chapman, who led the university for 11 years, but Hanson is no stranger to the area. He grew up in Hillsboro, is a former NDSU football star, and former Associate Vice President back in the 1990's.

Hanson says all transitions are tough, but he wants to be open, and promote transparency and accountability, but most importantly regain the trust of students, staff, and the public.

A Presidential Search Committee is now searching for a permanent replacement for Dr. Chapman. Dr. Hanson will be on the job until June 30th.
