(WDAY TV) - She was one of WDAY's first television stars who entertained your family for years. 89-year old Verna Newell has died.

She was a singer and pianist who started off in local radio, then eventually became the hostess of WDAY's Party-Line in the 60's and 70's.

The popular afternoon television variety show aired for more than 20-years. She, along with personalities Bill Weaver, Dewey Bergquist, and Boyd Christensen brought performers, chefs, and women’s segments to the tri-state area.

A memorial service for Verna will be held Sunday at Boulger at two.
