(WDAY TV) - Among the sale signs and advertisements there are some words of caution for Thanksgiving shoppers. Some people are already camped out for Friday's door busters at best buy, but before you race to the cash register; it's good to have a plan.

A local consumer credit counselor says some of last year's excited shoppers are still paying off last year's bills. To prevent that from happening to you, he has these suggestions:

Have a budget. Decide how much you can spend before you go shopping. Also, bring a list of what you plan to buy and do not charge more on a credit card than you can pay off in 1 to 3 months.

Huffman also recommends keeping your receipts so you can compare them to your credit card statements.

There are some websites to help you navigate the whirlwind of Black Friday sales and promotions. Consumer reports suggest websites like apple and best buy where you can buy without standing in line. There are also some websites listed devoted to Black Friday know-how.
