JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — Jamestown firefighters say they evacuated an apartment building after heavy amounts of carbon monoxide were detected.
Fire Chief Jim Reuther said tenants were alerted by carbon monoxide detectors about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. He said the building was evacuated but the tenants were allowed to return after the heating system was shut down and the building was ventilated.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 3 a.m.
Reuther said readings as high as 185 parts per million of carbon monoxide were found in the furnace room of the building. Carbon monoxide detectors usually trigger an alarm at a level of about 35 parts per million.
