Ada-Borup falls short in the 9-man semi-finals

(WDAY Sports) - In the high school ranks, fourth ranked and unbeaten Ada-Borup was a win away from playing for a state championship facing Nicollet in the 9-man semis.

(WDAY Sports) - In the high school ranks, fourth ranked and unbeaten Ada-Borup was a win away from playing for a state championship facing Nicollet in the 9-man semis.

Unbeaten Ada-Borup led their 9-man semifinal against Nicollet for 46 of the 48 minutes but an uncharacteristically sloppy second half cost the Cougars a chance to play for the state title.

Ada-Borup started off strong their first possession was capped by this impressive Yuri Johnson touchdown run eight nothing cougars after one quarter.

Move to the second quarter, Ada-Borup up 11-8, Nicollet going for it on fourth down in Cougar territory, but Michael Anderson comes up with the sack and forced fumble it's recovered by Ian Hawley. The turnover led to a Cougar score as Aaron Olson punches it in from close range 19-8 Ada Borup at the half.

Third quarter 27-15 Ada Borup, Nicollet's Jordan Rudineck to Shawn Murphy 63 yards for the touchdown that cut the Cougar lead to 27-23. The red and black would answer with a score of their own. Johnson his second touchdown run of the day 35-23 Ada Borup through three quarters it was the last time the Cougars would score however.

Trailing 35-29, Nicollet had a great drive. Rudineck caps it with a touchdown pass to Nick Mans with 1:49 left 36-35 Nicollet; it was their first lead of the game. The Cougars final drive ended in an interception 36-35 was the final Ada Borup's first loss of the year and it was a heartbreaker.

Second straight year the cougars have their season ended in the semis.
