Frazee, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A Frazee teenager battling terminal cancer is seeing his dream come true. Tyler Shipman posted an internet message for people to build up his beloved Pontiac Fiero. Strangers then donated parts, money, and labor. Today, they gave Tyler keys to his new "old" car.

“Last night is kind of a blur after working for so long.”

There was no time for sleep. Tyler was set to see his new wheels this morning.

“He’s talked about this project since it started, I mean it's non stop.”

For years Tyler’s friends have been busting his chops about his Fiero, but he'd never give in, keeping his pride, always sticking up for his car.

“It’s definitely his baby and he loves his car.”

Ironically, it’s those same friends watching him drive off.

“It’s funny his very first Fiero he bought when he was 15, I tried to talk him out of it.”

Tyler's family is adamant when saying words can't describe their feelings. His mom says he's not a guy to ever seek out the lime light. He's quiet, caring and resilient.

“He doesn't get angry, he's not bitter he's not any of those feelings he just seems to be taking everything in stride and have fun with the time he has left and do the best he can with it.”

“Bad stuff happens to good people, what do you do?”

The family says it's painful; emotionally for everyone and physically for Tyler, but this bitter sweet gesture will not soon be forgotten and will shine every time Tyler decides to take a cruise in style. Tyler's family isn't saying the timeline doctors have given him.
