Horace, ND (WDAY TV) - Vision testing in area schools may be more important than you think. Today, elementary students in Horace got their eyes checked. The Lions Club did this screening for the first time in April of 08. That year out of the 200 kids tested, 22 per cent had vision problems.
Lions Club members say they were stunned by those results, which is why they want to start holding these screenings every year. Kids go through the standard eye test, and then they are tested for color blindness, depth perception or a lazy eye.
Lions Club members say it's important to catch eye problems early, because if kids have vision issues, they may not be aware of it.
“May not be off by much, but it might be enough where they're sitting in the back of the class things are fuzzy, or what we ran in to last year a color blindness thing that nobody even knew about.”
Once the kids are screened, the vision test results are sent home to their parents, so they can decide what action to take.
