Breckenridge, Minn. (WDAY TV) - The Breckenridge school board made big decisions tonight regarding its next Superintendent. The search for the new leader will begin any day, ahead of many districts in Minnesota. After years of controversy, board members in Breckenridge hope that will change with their next Superintendent.

Tonight, the school board voted to expand the search to more than Minnesota. It will now look at the Dakotas, Wisconsin, and Iowa. The full time job will have extra duties. In a cost cutting move, the board voted to combine the Curriculum Director and Superintendent positions.

That will save the district about 21 thousand dollars. The board also voted to hire ADM Consulting at a cost of six thousand dollars to help with the effort.

“The board made the right decision to employ a consulting firm. I think that the responsibilities of the review of the candidates is then lifted from the board's shoulders and placed with professionals.”

The district wants a new leader by next school year. Interim Superintendent Warren Schmidt says he will absolutely not be applying.
