(WDAY TV) - Huge changes could be coming for the state's child support program. Clay County Social Service staff talked with Clay County Commissioners today about a possible state take-over of the system.

Right now, child support is a county-run program. A recent statewide study found too much child support staff and not efficient delivery of services.

Clay County says though, moving to a state run system could mean staff cuts and a move to regional state offices.

“With our case load of about 33 hundred, they won't have access to come into an office and ask their questions and we have a lot of people who want to come in and have that face to face instead of a phone call.”

The study says implementing a state-run system would cost $20 million dollars, but it would mean a yearly savings for the child support program of $23 million.
