Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The city of Fargo is working to create a lighting utility fee to fund the city's 11-thousand street lights.

Instead of the $1.6 million dollars coming from the city's general fund, instead they want to start adding a $4-dollar a month charge to homeowners. It would be a $10-dollar per-month charge to commercial properties.

The charges would be added to utility bills. Last year, it cost the city $800-thousand dollars in electricity to light the city streets. The city commission approved the first reading of the ordinance last night.
