Shanley is back in the title game for the first time since 1983, facing Devils Lake in the AA title game.

(WDAY Sports) - Shanley is back in the title game for the first time since 1983, facing Devils Lake in the AA title game. It is the Firebirds’ second trip there in three years. What a fantastic game.

It's 7-0 Devils Lake late in the first half. Here's Stefan Weber, he finds the end zone. Deacons tie the game up at 7 heading into the break. Now move to the 4th quarter. It's 17-10 Firebirds, but Shanley isn't done as Miles Montplasir shrugs off would be tacklers. 25 yards, somehow he finds

The end zone, the Deacons have tied it again at 17!

But the Firebirds answer to take a 24-17 lead. Last chance for Shanley, Montplasir leads them down the field, and then hits Josh Rodenbiker in the corner! With 8 seconds left Shanley has tied it at 24! We have to go to overtime.

Shanley gets the ball first. Montplasir takes it himself. He buries his way in after the Pat, Deacons lead 31-24. So Devils Lake must score. On 4th down, pass for the end zone is tipped, but it's caught by Brandon Myhre! What a play!

So now D-L has a decision. They decide to go for two and the win. Ben Wolf gets the carry, their best player, but is denied by Addison Alex and Montplasir and start going crazy Shanley. The Deacons have won the state title, 31-30 the final.

It's the first state title for Shanley in 26 years and the payoff couldn't be any sweeter for the Deacons. Today's championship was the first overtime game in Dakota Bowl history.
