Casselton, ND (WDAY TV) - Three cars lost control on the interstate, after a farm truck spilled wet distillers grain, a by-product of ethanol. Four people, including a three year old, were sent to the hospital in the crash.

As you can see traffic is backed up for miles as crews try to get this incredibly slick product off the road. Highway patrol officials say a grain truck coming from the ethanol plant in Casselton spilled a massive amount of wet distiller’s grain on the eastbound lane of I-94. Two cars hit the slick mess and flew out of control.

Crews had to extricate the injured people. Life Flight landed in the middle of the interstate to take one passenger to Fargo. The other two were taken by ambulance. It took two snow plows a half hour to clear the road. Authorities say this is a freak accident, very rare, but incredibly dangerous because the road turned from dry to ice-like in seconds.

"It’s just like glare ice, just like we were a snow storm in November right here from Casselton to Mapleton, basically in the driving lane."

It's taken crews about an hour to clean up everything off the road. It's a mess that stretches about 10 miles. The truck was finally stopped near Mapleton. Authorities say it was leaking feed the whole way. They say the driver, a farmer from Minnesota, was hauling feed to his farm from the plant. The victims are in stable condition.
