Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A bizarre find near the Red River in Fargo sent emergency crews into a panic this morning. Someone noticed tire tracks going into the water, but no one could be found. It turns out that authorities found something that may now solve a crime.
Just before 11 this morning police received a call from a person on the bike path near Mickelson Park, just south of the toll bridge.
“One set of tracks running right through the soft mud, it's fairly soft up here because this area was flooded not too long ago. The first officer thought we probably had a vehicle in the river there was no sign of it ever coming back out.”
The fire department determined a vehicle was submerged in about eight feet of water. A Valley Rescue diver was sent in to get the vehicle pulled out.
“Diver determined that the window was only partially down we wrenched the vehicle out using two different wreckers and we found out there wasn't anybody inside which is good.”
Once crews pulled the vehicle from the murky water, police found out it was stolen Thursday morning from Adelman concrete and excavating in West Fargo.
“Police say the truck being submerged under water will make the investigation more difficult. They're going to give the vehicle a little time to dry out before salvaging what they can for evidence.”
“There was some property in this truck that we already knew was missing we'll look and see what else is missing.”
Police say they have a possible witness who may have seen the tracks before this morning. Police do not have any suspects. After the vehicle was pulled from the river the rescue dive team didn't go back in for further searching.
