Famous Cuban musician to conduct the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - History will be made this weekend in Fargo when a famous musician from Cuba will conduct the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony. And what a journey it has been for Zenaida Romeu.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - History will be made this weekend in Fargo when a famous musician from Cuba will conduct the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony. And what a journey it has been for Zenaida Romeu. This is the first time in six years that a Cuban artist has been allowed to perform in the United States and that artist will be right here in our own backyard.

In Cuba Zenaida Romeu is a celebrity, her talents well known throughout the Carribean. So when Bernie Rubenstein of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony traveled to Cuba to work with musicians. He invited Zenaida Romeu to Fargo.

Her journey here took months. Cuban artist were just not allowed into the U.S.; An immigration lawyer, piles of red tape, finally a visa, and then to Fargo, making a historic trip.

Rubenstein has traveled to Cuba often and arranged for a North Dakota Ag delegation to hear Zenaida Romeu perform. Tonight, a chance for the state to welcome an artist who wants nothing more than to share a common thread.

Tickets for the F-M Symphony performances are still available at the door. Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at two, both at NDSU's Festival Concert Hall.
