Economic development to turn focus towards production businesses

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Don't expect help from the Greater F-M Economic Development Corporation to bring new manufacturing and construction jobs to our area. GFMEDC President Brian Walters says that's where most of the area's jobs were lost recently.

He says those industries are shrinking and consolidating. The GFMEDC has the power to try and attract new businesses, but it has to focus on areas that are actually expanding.

“That's really a policy conversation with our legislators in Minnesota and North Dakota to shift us more toward production based incentives.”

The GFMEDC is currently working with companies in vaccine research and development and smart technologies to try to get them to the area.
