Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - 2010 is a major milestone year for the Fargo Park District. It turns 100 years old. Celebrations kicked off today at the Downtown Depot.
Past and present board members and district workers gathered together to talk about where the park department began, and where it's going. It all started at Island Park in 1910, and now the Park District has grown to include multiple parks all over the city.
“It's amazing and it's commendable, so I hope in 100 years when the current President is standing up here, giving this speech, he's as impressed as I've been with the last 100 years.”
Board members say they plan to hold a number of events in 2010 to continue celebrating the Park District's 100 years. The Fargo Park District is adding on to its alcohol policy. Tonight the board decided to allow vendors to sell certain alcohol for events.
The policy now includes Island Park, Great Northern, the Plains, Lindenwood, Trollwood and Rabanus. Vendors renting out shelters, or who are at the parks for events can now sell beer and wine, but no hard liquor. It can only apply to three day events, and vendors have to comply with city law.
