Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - An update on the armed robbery in Moorhead Sunday night, Moorhead Police say they've been interviewing witnesses, and following all possible leads. Three men pushed him into the apartment with two shotguns and a handgun in hand, and held a pizza delivery man there, with the two residents while the three men robbed the place.
Police say it only took about five minutes, and then the men fled. They aren't saying what was stolen
"We're interested in the totality of this thing. Why this apartment, clearly they were targeted. This is inside a building so they picked this apartment. You know, we want to look into all those reasons."
Police say the victims did not recognize the three men. Police say the robbers were in their early to mid-twenties. The robber has left some people in the apartment building shaken.
People were shocked and surprised to hear something like thing happening under their roof, but one thing that made it a bit easier for the robbers to get into the apartment complex. You don't need a key to get into the front door, meaning anyone can walk right in.
MSUM junior Zach Vavricka picked this as a place to live a year ago because it's just blocks from all his classes, but after an armed robbery in his building, location is taking a back seat to security.
“I was writing a paper and I didn't hear anything because it’s very loud. Doors slam and you can hear almost anything that happens in the apartment."
In fact, Vavricka and others living nearby, had to hear it from somewhere else!
"People were calling me and being like; your house is on TV! I'm like, what?”
"I didn't hear anything going on until the news and then I looked out my window obviously and saw all the cops and everything around."
This unsecured apartment building made it easier to the thieves to get in and people like Vavricka say if the front door won't stop them, then he'll have to protect himself.
"I’m a little freaked out. I'm definitely going to lock my door when I leave the house and when I'm in the house now."
"Make sure my doors are locked now all the time, but I don't know, it's kind of like an isolated incident. I don't think it will be a common occurrence or anything so I’m not too worried."
Police are still looking for the three men who broke into the apartment. If you have any information, you're still asked to call Moorhead Police.
