GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — A Golden Valley day care provider is accused of using safety pins to restrain and discipline a young child.

A criminal complaint says 70-year-old Arvilla Marie Lilly Meinhardt told investigators she had been pinning toddlers in her in-home day care to mattresses for about eight years.

She's charged with gross misdemeanor punishment of a child and false imprisonment involving one girl, who's now seven. Meinhardt cared for the girl from 2003 to 2006. Police began investigating when the girl recently became angry about memories of Meinhardt and told her mother that she was pinned to a mattress during nap time.

Meinhardt's husband and daughter were also arrested, but have not been charged in the case.
