Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A unique sporting event came to the Fargo area this weekend. The F-M Derby Girls held their first ever bout against Winnipeg.

More than 16-hundred people packed into the Civic to watch the event. About 300 had to be turned away because there wasn't room.

Many fans dressed up for the occasion. The bouts are real, not staged.

Skaters practice at least four hours a week before the bout. North Dakota is the last state to roll the derby resurgence. The team says they hope to host another event early next year and the good news is the F-M Derby Girls won.
