Study under way of Baldhill Dam power plant
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — The general manager of the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District says a study of whether a hydroelectric power plant would be feasible for the Baldhill Dam near Valley City should be finished by year's end.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — The general manager of the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District says a study of whether a hydroelectric power plant would be feasible for the Baldhill Dam near Valley City should be finished by year's end.
Dave Koland says the study is measuring the amount of water flowing through the dam.
The flow would be increased under a proposal to divert Missouri River water to eastern North Dakota. The proposal envisions a pipeline from McClusky to Lake Ashtabula, northwest of Valley City.
Koland said that if the preliminary study is favorable, another study will take a more detailed look at the cost.
He said a power plant near Valley City would be much smaller that the Garrison Dam power plant north of Bismarck.
The $25,000 study is being paid for by the conservancy district and Valley City.
