MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A man who was shot in the shoulder by a SWAT team member during an 8½-hour standoff at his home in Hebron has been convicted of two felony counts.

A jury in Morton County found 53-year-old George Fischer guilty of assault on a peace officer and terrorizing. The maximum prison term is 10 years in prison.

The jury deliberated about an hour on Tuesday.

Authorities say the March 4 standoff began after Fischer threatened a city employee who came to tell him his water service might be disconnected because of an unpaid bill.

A West Dakota SWAT team member shot and wounded Fischer to end the standoff. State officials had ruled the shooting was justified.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 31.
