Clay County Commissioners put support behind North Dakota diversion

(WDAY TV) - Another push today for a North Dakota diversion to be the answer to our regions flooding problems, but this latest endorsement is far from a final answer that will get any project moving forward.

(WDAY TV) - Another push today for a North Dakota diversion to be the answer to our regions flooding problems, but this latest endorsement is far from a final answer that will get any project moving forward.

Clay County Commissioners voted today to give their support for a North Dakota diversion project. The unanimous vote this morning says if a diversion project is chosen by the Army Corps of Engineers, Clay County prefers it to be built across the river.

They join three other groups pushing a North Dakota diversion, including the Cass County Commission, Southeast Cass Water Board and the West Fargo City Commission.

Clay County Commissioners say a Minnesota diversion wouldn't address water coming from North Dakota and causing overland flooding, but this issue is far from being resolved.

Permanent flood protection options will be further talked about between the metro flood management meeting and the Army Corps at a meeting Thursday.
