Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's an odd sight in November; the Red River is climbing out of its banks. Right now, the Red is at 22-feet. Flood stage is 18. The Red will rise to 24-feet by Wednesday night. That is a foot below moderate flood stage. The National Weather Service says there will be just minor flooding along the river.

Last October, the Red rose above 25-feet and in the spring, the Red hit historic levels of almost 41-feet. We usually talk river levels in the spring, but this fall, heavy rains are closing roads and parks in Fargo-Moorhead. It has been some time since we've seen these levels in the fall.

Guy Fox and his dog Abby usually hit Lindenwood for a walk in the park, but during the last 24-hours, parks and land near the river have been swallowed by the rising Red.

β€œI saw the gates closing and I knew the water was coming up, but I didn't think the park would close.”

It is not so much we had a wet 2009, but a couple of months that have been real doozies, March during the flood and October which is responsible for all of this.

β€œIt was our 3rd wettest on record last year was our 5th but this year now it pushes it back to 6th. We have had 4 of the top 15. The Weather Service cannot recall when the Red in Fargo reached 24 feet during a November.”

This we know, we've had our fair share of water in 09, time for a quieter, dryer new year.

The National Weather Service says the last time we even hit flood stage in Fargo during a November, was back in 2004.
