BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers will be looking at flood protection in the Sheyenne and James river valleys.

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., says the corps is hoping to start its studies later this year. He says $300,000 in federal money to pay for them has been included in a congressional appropriations bill.

Dorgan says the Sheyenne and James rivers saw significant flooding this year, in Valley City and Jamestown as well as in smaller communities like Kathryn, Lisbon, Fort Ransom, LaMoure and Oakes. Dorgan says it's important to look at long-term flood protection for those communities.
