West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Some youngsters sacrificed their hard work on Halloween to help others halfway around the world. For two hours, children traded their excess candy for cash at Doctor Patrick Capp's office in West Fargo.

For every pound of candy, kids got one dollar. Everyone also walked away with a gift bag, and parents could sign up to win gift certificates. All the candy collected will eventually make its way to American troops in other countries.

"Mason, when he was sorting through his candy today, was deciding on what he was going to give and what he was going to keep and he said this feels really good that I’m going to be sharing with other people who don't have candy right now."

The kids also signed and wrote messages on cards for the soldiers.
