Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Another year of a student led food drive campaign is now underway in the region. Today, students from across Cass and Clay County kicked off the third annual Fill the Dome food drive.

It'll be about a month until the floor here at the Fargodome is once again filled with food, but this year student organizers have their sights set even higher with a much larger goal in mind.

Students from several area schools kicked off their third annual food drive campaign at the Great Plains Food Bank, its just one of the places benefiting from these students' hard work. Their 2009 goals are bigger and better; they want to collect 75 tons of food, $75 thousand dollars in donations, and 75 hundred petition signatures.

The petition is a new idea this year to raise a greater awareness of the new for food donations.

“We want to raise awareness in our community to resolve hunger. We feel this hunger petition will invoke action by local and state government that can affect hunger here in our community.”

This Fill the Dome campaign is also inspiring other cities. A group in Bismarck recently just wrapped up a Pack the Civic food drive for the first time.

The Dome will be filled with food November 23rd all day. If you'd like to learn more about this drive or sign the group's petition, head online to fillthedome.org
