Flu vaccine clinic

Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - As we speak, the area's first H1-N1 vaccine clinic is going on at MSUM's Nemzek Hall. Clay County is hosting the clinic until 7 tonight. Already we've seen there is a shoulder to shoulder crowd of people, waiting to get the vaccine.

There are hundreds of people waiting here, we just checked a few minutes ago, and the line is even starting to back up all the way out of the front doors, but even with such a crowd, the lines are moving pretty steadily.

Right now there are only about 15 hundred doses available, they're all in the flu mist form, and health care providers say it's just as effective as the shot. For tonight's clinic, the only people eligible for the mist are clay county children between 2 and 9 years old, or care givers for infants younger than 6 months.

That group should also not have any underlying health conditions. People here tonight say they decided to be proactive and get vaccinated.

“To kind of stop the spread and help to protect kids maybe that haven't been compromised or younger children that are getting sicker with the disease, so.”

Since it is a little chilly outside, the county public health office is asking people to dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes, because there's a chance they may have to stand in line outside. The same goes for the clinic on Saturday morning in Fargo at North High School.
