Fargo, ND (WDAY Sports) - Bison football fans are not happy. The team is 1-6, riddled with injuries, mistakes, and bad breaks, but tonight on Further Review, why calls to can the coach are crazy.

Yes this year has been bad in just about every way. No one knows it more than Bohl, and he knows the deal, you lose, you move on, but let's remember a few things. One, this is the same guy that rebuilt the program from 2-8. He hasn't forgotten how to coach football.

Two, he hasn't forgotten what a good recruit looks like. Those teams that went 10-1 were largely his recruits. Go back and look it up. Recruiting suffers when coaches leave, and Bohl will tell you that for a while they aimed a little high and got a little complacent, thinking more kids would want to play at NDSU because of that, but the true freshman class already has more playmakers than some of the earlier classes, and several top recruits are still red shirting. I call that a lesson learned.

Three, this team was going to be young to start with, 7 new starters on both sides of the ball. Four, they have been decimated by injuries. Their top four linebackers are out, maybe for the year. I don't care who you are, your defense is going to struggle when that's the deal.

Five, as I’ve discussed here before, no one expected the QB position to be the issue it's been and six, this team has not quit. In every one of their seven losses, they've been within a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

In the end coaching is a bottom line business and no doubt, Bohl has made some mistakes. So have his assistants, but so have I in my job, so have you, in yours. If we're having this same conversation this time next year, I may feel differently, but I’ve seen enough from Craig Bohl to say he's earned a chance to fix what needs fixing.
