(WDAY Sports) - In some ways, today is a very good day for Chris Coste, in other ways it's like a foul tip to the collarbone. The Houston Astros sent the 36 year old catcher to the minors today, effectively making him a free agent for the first time in his major league career.

He can go anywhere he wants; now he just needs to find someone that wants him.

“You know if my phone starts ringing off the hook it'll be very exciting, if the phone doesn't ring hopefully the RedHawks call. I joke about that but I have no idea what to expect from free agency but hopefully good things.”

Could one of those things be signing with the Twins? Backup catcher Mike Redmond probably won't be back and Coste says it would be great to suit up at Target Field, but he also thinks Jose Morales will get that spot behind Joe Mauer.

“I would think from a front office standpoint would be they want Morales back there just in case they can't bring Mauer back the next year, they got Morales more because he is experienced and he's quite capable anyway so as much as I would love to be a Twin. If they called me I'd feel like I won the lottery, but I'd be surprised.”

Coste is not surprised to see the Phillies get back to the World Series, which starts tonight at Yankee Stadium. He says it's tough not to be in the dugout with his old mates, but he is OK with just being a Joe Sixpack.

“I have actually enjoyed watching the games from my lay-z-boy which is a vantage point I never get to see so it's different, but if the Phillies win and I watch them run out on the field and have the parade at that point I’d really say man I wish I was there, but for now I’ve really enjoyed watching as a fan.”

Coste says the series is a toss up, but if the Phillies win he'll get another World Series ring and a bonus because he spent part of the year with the team.
