NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) — School officials have punished about 40 New Ulm High School students for taunting the opposing players and coach during a volleyball game last week.

Superintendent Harold Remme (REM'-mee) says the disciplined students won't be allowed as a spectator at games for two weeks and if they're an athlete, they'll be suspended for two games.

The punishment includes Tuesday's football playoff game at Hutchinson — which New Ulm lost — and Friday's volleyball game at Marshall.

New Ulm football coach Rob Bute (byoot) says the punished students include 11 football players.

Game officials warned the student section about making inappropriate comments toward the Fairmont coach and team during a volleyball match last Thursday. After a penny was thrown on the court, students in that section were ejected from the gym.
