Fergus Falls, Minn. (WDAY TV) - It's a popular lake in the heart of Fergus Falls and it could be getting a facelift soon. For the last few years, Lake Alice has been getting a lot of attention, but the wrong kind.
Egrets, geese, and other waterfowl have damaged trees and the green space around the lake. For years, neighbors have complained about the smell and impact of bird waste in and around the lake. Now the city has finished a study and it has a plan to focus on landscaping, walking paths, and sewer-water upgrades.
“The loud resounding thing I heard was water quality and the way to solve that is two things, deal with storm sewer and landscaping to slow down storm water going down into the lake.”
Other state and federal agencies are working with Fergus Falls to address the large population of egrets and geese at the lake which have killed of some of the trees there.
