Bagley, Minn. (WDAY TV) - So many students and teachers in Bagley, Minnesota are sick, the football team has forfeited its playoff football game with the Hawley Nuggets. The flu is hitting clusters of schools.

Hawley played Bagley just two weeks ago, winning easily, but instead of a playoff game with the flyers tonight, the nuggets win by forfeit.

“They got over 20-percent of their students out, 14 of 69 teachers and staff out.”

Hawley can relate, two weeks ago the flu bowled its way thru the halls of Hawley high, 140 students down and sick. And Hawley is taking extra steps to protect its players, getting rid of germ ridden shared water bottles for the water boy. Players use the wands to shoot water into their mouths.

“Do what we can to take every precaution possible to protect our players.”

Senior football players Andrew Ranier and Taylor Harms got news of he forfeited game when they arrived in school.

“If it was me, I would be devastated; it could the last game of the season.”

For Hawley, one extra practice and some time to heal and get everyone well before the next playoff game Saturday. The Minnesota high school league says no other teams have forfeited. Tonight is the first round of the Minnesota playoffs.
