Dilworth, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Dilworth city council members say they don't want a diversion to go through their town. All agree a Minnesota diversion will impact the city in a negative way.

They're drafted a strongly worded letter that will be sent to the Metropolitan Flood Management Group. They say the Minnesota diversion would redefine and limit Dilworth's growth.

Prime commercial property would be lost along Highway-10. It would wipe out an option for the DGF school district for a site for a future middle school and high school and who would compensate Dilworth for the lost tax base?

“We're still hoping the North Dakota numbers work out so it can go on the North Dakota side. We're just not very excited about it over here. We're just hoping it goes away, truthfully.”

Council members say an agreement with Moorhead already limits its growth to the north and south. They say the diversion would land-lock their community.
