WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) — A farmer known for his love of peacocks has left $1 million to the Chahinkapa (chan-HINK'-ah-pah) Zoo in Wahpeton.
Alfred Boehning died in January last year. He was a bachelor who farmed near Geneseo.
Zoo Director Kathy Diekman (DEEK'-man) says the $1 million gift is the zoo's largest single donation. It includes two quarters of land as welll as personal property and cash.
Diekman says some of the money will be used for an endowment fund, and part of it will be used for a park area with information about peacocks and other birds, and about Boehning.
