A national environmental watchdog group says too many toxic chemicals are being dumped into North Dakota rivers.

(WDAY TV) - A national environmental watchdog group says too many toxic chemicals are being dumped into North Dakota rivers. Environment America has published a national report that details the health of every river in every state.

While North Dakota’s waterways are better off then most in the country, the report says 82-thousand pounds of toxic chemicals are dumped yearly into the state rivers.

“We need clean water now and we need the government to act to protect our health. North Dakota is better off, we rank 42nd, but still have a long way to go.”

The Environment America Organization says the Missouri River in North Dakota ranks 8th in the nation for the most total toxic discharges.
